Club membership swells to 27

The Last Word is delighted to note that the club has grown to include 27 members. The following people have joined since the beginning of the club year (July 1): Ravi Chimakurthy, Paul Gardiner, Denise Jones, Mira Kaselj, Samba Nadella, and Don Zidik. A warm welcome to all!

Many new members and visitors have mentioned that they first learned about the club through our club web site, the brain child of our VP of Public Relations, Susu Wong.

Want to post a flyer?

Here’s a good way to help spread the word about The Last Word. We now have our own membership flyer, suitable to be posted in any public place such as your workplace, local library, or health club. The flyer has pull-off tabs with contact phone numbers. For copies, please see our VP of Membership, Rosemary Henchey.

A New Year message

From Carlene Falvey, Club President: We’re halfway through the Club year and it’s been a busy and exciting time. As a Club we have accomplished much. What I like best is we’ve had fun at the same time. We have 27 members from all walks of life and our speeches reflect this diversity in our meetings. Also our meetings are blessed with energy and humor as we coalesce as a group practicing our public speaking skills.

I challenge all of you to make the New Year as fun and productive as the past six months. Happy New Year!

Club holds annual Guest Night

On November 9, The Last Word held its annual Guest Night. Rosemary Henchey was Toastmaster for the evening.

With strong encouragement from the Table Topics Master, Mei Wang, four guests – Tricia, Bill, Smokey, and Ravi – participated in Table Topics and were each awarded a Good Sport Certificate for taking part.

Ravi did more than participate in Table Topics. At the end of the evening he enrolled as a club member! What better way to conclude Guest Night?

Ellen Stanford competes in Area Speech Contest

Ellen Stanford advanced from the Club Humorous Speech Contest to the Area contest held in September. Ellen’s hilarious speech on the joys and tribulations of planning her wedding will long be remembered with pleasure by all her hearers. Congratulations to Ellen for taking part in the contest, and much more for the happy conclusion of those wedding plans.

Members earn awards

Congratulations go to the following Toastmasters for receiving Educational Awards: Joyce Matteson, Competent Leader (July 2000), and Alethea “Lee” Yates, Competent Toastmaster (August 2000).
