Humorous Speech Contest

Lee Yates is the winner of the Area A4 District competition on October 9 and competed at the divisional level on October 16.  Congratulations, Lee.

Al Rowe Roast/Toast

Al has been a member of Toastmasters for many years and through those years has mentored many new members.  His encouraging words have helped many members continue on and receive their CTM certificates.  President Rich Levesque awarded Al with a pin and trophy in gratitude of Al’s participation in the Last Word Toastmasters Club.  Engraved on the trophy is a saying which truly defines Al:  “A man who has given so much and has asked for so little.”  From all of us at the Last Word Toastmasters, thank you, Al.  You have and continue to be an inspiration to the Club.

Ice Breaker Certificate – Kalidas Porika, Monica Jain, Asha Dixit

The Ice Breaker Certificate is awarded for the first speech.

Congratulations Kalidas, Monica, Asha, James, Scott, Jeff, Marie and Jacob.

Helpful Hints

Toastmasters - Please include the speaker’s speech number and allotted time on the agenda.  Meeting begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.; Table Topics should finish at 8:00 p.m.

Timer – Be visible by sitting in the back row middle aisle.  Keep card visible until speaker sees card.

Word of the day  - Verbs or adjectives are easier to work into speeches.  Word should be posted on the lectern at the beginning of the meeting.

Table Topics – Techniques for impromptu speaking. Questions can be on current events, personal experiences, or any other topic.  Speaker responds in 1-2 minutes = repeat the question, make up an answer, go back to another question -- whatever it takes to “think on your feet” for 1 minute.

Speaker Evaluator – Objective is to encourage speaker with a few helpful hints to improve next speech.  Use “sandwich” technique, i.e, good points of speech, then few suggestions, good points of speech

Not everyone has e-mail

Please remember to call members who do not have e-mail when you have positions open on the agenda.  We tend to use the most convenient method and just e-mail, forgetting that not everyone who would like to participate has the luxury of a computer or e-mail.  It may seem a necessity to many, but not everyone has access.  The most recent roster is available now.
